Position Overview

The Staff Therapist or Staff Psychologist is a 9-month, full-time position that supports CCS’s mission to provide mental health services and support the academic success of Butler students.  The person in this position will provide individual and group therapy, outreach programming, and consultation for all students, with an emphasis on serving students who identify from historically marginalized and underrepresented groups.  This position requires a passion for and competence in social justice, equity, and diversity.  This person will be responsible for strengthening our connections with diversity partners on campus, mainly housed within the Diversity Center, with a priority of addressing the mental health needs of students of color.  Similar to all CCS staff, this clinician will work to integrate inclusive excellence in all professional roles and activities. CCS is administratively located within the Division of Student Affairs.  The service is IACS accredited and sponsors an APA-accredited internship program.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver therapeutic services to individuals/groups/couples
  • Provide emergency and crisis intervention services
  • Serve as primary liaison to the Diversity Center and student organizations and groups representing underserved and marginalized groups
  • Provide consultation services to faculty, staff, students, and parents
  • Participate in the training of doctoral psychology interns, doctoral practicum students, and master’s-level interns
  • Provide outreach and student development programming to campus community  
  • Serve on campus committees and work groups
  • Ensure record-keeping and clinical services are in regulatory and ethical compliance and meet accreditation standards
  • As time and money permits, represents Butler University regionally and nationally through active participation in governance and operation of professional organizations
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling and Consultation Services

Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Expertise in outreach presentations for college population
    • Experience in treating trauma, eating disorders, and/or substance abuse
    • Experience in training psychology graduate students


    • Earned Master’s, Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA-accredited program and internship in counseling or clinical psychology
    • Licensure as a psychologist or Master’s level therapist in the State of Indiana, with Health Service Provider in Psychology endorsement.  Strong preference will be given to candidates who currently hold licensure
    • Demonstrated commitment to cultural competence and demonstrated successful experience in provision of psychological services to underrepresented and marginalized groups
    • Experienced in effectively assisting students coping with issues including, but not limited to, racial battle fatigue, bias incidences, microaggressions, and intersectionality
    • Demonstrated ability work effectively with professional and administrative colleagues from differing departments, divisions, and disciplines
    • Experience working in a college counseling setting (internship year can be included)
