Position Overview

Butler University seeks a Manager of Building Services to oversee all aspects of housekeeping, sets and events in order to provide the University with stellar living and learning environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and directs the work of coordinators. Provides overall leadership for the Building Services Department.
  • Manages the department budget, assisting the AVP with the data needed to create a budget every year and ensuring the budget does not exceed the approved funding throughout the fiscal year
  • Assists with the sustainability efforts of the University.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external customers to provide good customer experiences
  • Manages supply and equipment order and inventory
  • Constantly reassess the department goals to ensure best service
  • Oversees the pest control needs of campus
  • Oversees trash removal of campus
  • Assists with furniture moves and events on campus
  • Taking a committed leadership role in campus sustainability including research, working across campus with others, developing plans, initiatives, strategies, implementing.
  • Make sure the integration and execution of Butler University sustainability goals across campus.

Required Qualifications 

  • HS Diploma or GED required  
  • 5-7 years of experience in building (custodial) services required
  • 3+ years’ experience managing and supervising custodial services staff
  • Ability to motivate an entry level workforce directly and through supervisors
  • Ability to develop realistic timelines and milestones for staff members
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to work as part of team
  • Ability to provide necessary resources and remove obstacles to help team accomplish its goals
  • Ability to work across all lines and levels of the organization through effective verbal and written communications
  • Assist with the annual budgeting development and management and continually seek new ways to analyze new opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and general computer skills required

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience in building services management in an academic setting preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
