Position Overview

Butler University Athletics is seeking a Head Equipment Manager. This position will report to the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations and will manage equipment operations for all intercollegiate athletics teams.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Nike and BSN staff on behalf of department to manage equipment, apparel and gear purchases and returns.
  • Supervise equipment room inventory to issue and collect in accordance with NCAA rules. 
  • Analyze student-athlete equipment to ensure safety and reliability, while providing repair or replacement recommendations for athletic equipment as necessary. 
  • Oversees and develops annual laundry plans for 20 teams and over 500 student-athletes. 
  • Oversee one (1) full-time assistant equipment manager, several part-time workers and several students, with responsibility for hiring, evaluating/disciplining all supervised employees and integrating best practices for department.
  • Develop equipment room budget, with ability to ensure fiscal responsibility to successfully equipment, apparel and gear through the department’s Nike contract.
  • Manage and evaluate athletic vehicles and maintenance program. 
  • Provide some event and game day support when requested.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in athletics equipment operations required.
  • Possess strong administrative or organization skills to multi-task and problem solve efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a diverse atmosphere. 
  • Flexible hours required to directs the set up/take down of equipment, game/practice preparation and movement of large shipping boxes. 
  • Commitment to the values and mission of Butler University required.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Supervisory experience 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft and Chrome River software.
  • Knowledge of NCAA, Big East and Butler rules and regulations and policies and procedures.
