Position Overview

The Associate Director of Financial Aid plays a key role in supporting Founder’s College students and the overall college’s success. Founder’s College students must have demonstrated financial need to be admitted; thus, supporting the students with the financial aid process and subsequent packaging is essential for student enrollment and retention. The Associate Director is accountable for the day-to-day financial aid operations, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and Butler financial aid processes. Adherence to all policies and regulations is required, along with a commitment to providing exceptional service to students and their families. The Associate Director will work closely with admission, academic affairs, and student success team members to provide holistic student support.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, including grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study opportunities. Ensure compliance with regulations and policies governing financial aid distribution.
    Advocate for students' financial aid needs and concerns within the college community and in transition to four-year programs. Serve as a resource and advocate for students facing financial challenges or barriers to accessing aid.
  • Review and evaluate financial aid applications, resolve complex issues, and make professional judgments regarding students' financial aid awards.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of financial aid policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of financial aid services and transition to Butler 4-year enrollment while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as admissions, academic affairs, and student success, to provide an excellent student experience.
  • Create and oversee outreach efforts with enrollment marketing support for the college, including financial aid workshops, presentations, and resources. 
  • Work with key partners (i.e., TheDream.US) to administer scholarships to support students. Ensure alignment with all participation requirements.
  • Utilize financial aid management systems to process aid applications, track disbursements, and maintain accurate student records. 
  • Stay informed about changes in federal and state financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures, and ensure timely updates to internal processes and documentation.
  • Train and utilize the Slate CRM, which supports the student application process.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial aid administration
  • Experience working with historically underrepresented students
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Proven experience working with federal and state financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Passionate about access, affordability, and equity in higher education
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and in proactive management of responsibilities.
  • Comfortable in a dynamic startup environment, including significant amounts of autonomy 
  • Proficiency in financial aid management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to providing exceptional customer service to students and families

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 8-10 years of experience in Financial Aid
  • Growth in the field of financial aid, shown by upward trajectory in positions
