Position Overview

Butler University seeks an energetic and highly visible higher education professional to join the Student Affairs team as the Assistant Director of Student Activities – Student Organizations & Campus Programs in the Office of Student Activities. Butler University has been nationally recognized by the Princeton Review for providing dynamic student involvement opportunities both on campus and throughout the city of Indianapolis. This Assistant Director contributes to our vibrant campus environment through the development and implementation of programs geared towards student engagement and involvement outcomes. This position will specifically focus on supporting student organizations and energizing campus-wide student participation through a variety of programs. This Assistant Director will collaborate with campus and community partners to enhance the holistic development of the Butler University student body. This is a full-time, live-on position. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by May 28th.

Responsibilities

  • Advance programming initiatives that support connection, engagement, and a sense of belonging utilizing the BU|BeWell developmental framework and the Division of Student Affairs’ strategic plan.
  • Develop office programs and services that further the priorities and mission of the Office of Student Activities and the Department of Student Involvement & Leadership.
  • Supervise the University Program Council (UPC) student leadership team on campus-wide programming efforts associated with their respective committees.
  • Advise the Butler Ambassadors for Special Olympics (BASO) student leadership team and their respective committees with their philanthropic events and large-scale programming.
  • Advise The Drift Yearbook in the strategic development, promotion, and distribution of their publication.
  • Oversee the event registration process for student organizations and serve as an active resource for students planning programs. 
  • Research, advocate for, and maintain student organization programming requirements and guidelines with a focus on risk mitigation.
  • Coordinate Office of Student Activities digital presence by maintaining website, social media, and other internal/external facing communication resources.
  • Contribute to the university’s strategic goal of creating an intentionally diverse, inclusive, and equitable learning and working environment.
  • Contribute to a highly engaged Butler student experience and vibrant campus culture by living on campus and supporting student life efforts. Expectations include participation in shared Campus Activities on-call rotation, collaboration with colleagues to support initiatives, being present for programs, supporting student trips, retreats, and other departmental sponsored initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications 

  • The successful candidate should be a collaborative, innovative professional with an ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with students and colleagues.
  • They should have passion for programming, developing student leaders, and desire a high level of engagement
  • A master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field is required

The successful candidate will possess the following professional qualifications and personal characteristics:

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Experience advising college students
  • Understanding of college student development theory
  • Experience planning and comprehensive understanding of best practices as it related to programming including risk mitigation, contract processes and event planning processes
  • Command of technology including student organizational management software (Engage), space reservation systems (EMS), social media and other online tools.
