Position Overview

Butler University is seeking an assistant coach for the Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Programs. This position provides significant support for the success of the Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field programs. Primary duties are coaching, skill development, recruiting, academic monitoring and development of positive team culture.

Responsibilities

  • Assist head coach with all coaching, recruiting, retention, academic success and day-to-day management of the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field athletic programs.
  • Contribute to positive team culture
  • Identify, evaluate and recruit students that can succeed at Butler both academically and athletically
  • Build and cultivate relationships with scholastic and non-scholastic coaches
  • Assist with teaching and coaching in team and individual settings
  • Competition preparation through meet and practice planning
  • Pre and post season conditioning and skill development
  • Personal development of student-athletes
  • Support head coach with administrative duties as assigned.
  • Assist in managing and operating home cross country and track & field events.
  •  

Required Qualifications 

  • Earned four year baccalaureate degree required. Intercollegiate competitive experience and two more year’s experience working in a collegiate cross country/track & field program. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations desired.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master's Degree
  • Extensive recruiting experience domestically and internationally at the collegiate level
  • Experience overseeing training programs for middle distance and distance athletes at the collegiate level
  • Collegiate coaching preferred. Desired candidate will have outstanding verbal communication and leadership skills; able to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, administrators and staff.
