Position Overview

The Senior Associate Athletic Director of Development for Butler University should be a passionate, high integrity, experienced athletics fundraising professional with a proven track record of soliciting and closing leadership philanthropic gifts. This individual will lead all aspects of the athletics development team. Reporting to the Vice President and Director of Athletics, this position will work closely with the Vice President of Advancement and Advancement Leadership team to develop the strategy and execution needed to secure critical resources in support of the Butler University Athletic Department. This individual should possess strong communication and leadership skills and promote an environment of excellence and accountability. 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the planning and fundraising efforts of the athletics department working closely with the AD, coaches, staff and other campus partners to support our 22 athletics programs.
  • Responsible for the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of private support from individuals, corporations, and foundations for Butler Athletics with a focus on securing principal and major gifts.
  • Manage an athletics development team (The Bulldog Club) consisting of four fundraising professionals, interns and student workers.
  • Work closely with the VP of Advancement and other advancement colleagues to ensure alignment and collaboration across campus.
  • Adhere to the University-wide prospect management system and other University-wide advancement policies
  • In coordination with University Advancement, oversee the planning and execution of Butler Athletics annual and capital fundraising campaigns, the Butler Way Society, day-of-giving campaigns and NIL support.
  • Serve as a senior leader of Butler Athletics to a broad range of constituencies, including trustees, alumni, parents, friends, faculty and staff, senior corporate executives, and the Indianapolis community.
  • Travel is required, as well as attendance at events on evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7-10 years of successful athletics fundraising­ experience, preferably within higher education.
  • Proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts of $100,000+.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Staff and volunteer management experience.
  • Positive attitude with strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, collaboratively and within a team structure.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends.
