Position Overview

Butler University’s Information Technology department is currently seeking a passionate and skilled Infrastructure Systems Analyst who is eager to join a team that values education, collaboration, innovation, and fun. The Analyst will be involved with Butler’s enterprise infrastructure technology at all levels, including virtualized compute environment, backup and storage systems, wired and wireless networks, and associated applications (including but not limited to Windows Server/Ubuntu, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, ESXI, and VCenter.) Additionally, the Analyst will have the unique opportunity to participate in business ventures as part of a new Butler entity in service to the local community. Alongside this, the Analyst will have the opportunity to obtain a variety of technology certifications including Cisco, Ruckus, Synology, and others. 

As a member of the Butler IT team, the Analyst will be responsible for designing and implementing robust solutions, managing system configurations, and ensuring seamless integration with emerging technologies. The role requires a hands-on approach to troubleshooting complex issues, optimizing system performance, and staying abreast of industry trends to recommend and implement innovative solutions, in addition to daily operational work (including provisioning, de-provisioning, patching, configuration updates, and remediating security issues). The Analyst will also work with hardware vendors, provide detailed written documentation of support protocols for supported systems, and provide occasional end-user training.

This position offers a hybrid work model, combining both in-office and remote responsibilities.  

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable and reliable IT infrastructure solutions. 
  • Provide expert-level support for escalated technical issues, serving as a resource for complex problem resolution and root cause analysis. 
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand specific business requirements and translate them into effective IT infrastructure solutions 
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides. 
  • Participate in capacity planning and performance tuning activities to ensure the scalability of the IT environment 
  • Provide ad-hoc end-user training for application systems. 
  • Provide and be committed to exceptional customer service and proactively undertake initiatives that improve customer experience.  

Required Qualifications 

  • 3-5 years experience managing/supporting IT infrastructure
  • 3-5 years of experience in a full-time technical role 
  • Direct experience providing support for enterprise application systems 
  • Experience with coding (Python/PowerShell/Bash preferred) as well as an understanding of best practices in task automation 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail 
  • Flexibility in a changing environment 
  • Proven experience in analyzing system/business processes to identify inefficiencies and developing strategies for improvement 
  • Ability and desire to thrive in a team environment 
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed including occasional evenings, early mornings, and weekends 

Preferred Qualifications 

Experience with any of the following: 

  • Windows Server 
  • Ubuntu and/or Oracle Linux 
  • VMware Hypervisor stacks 
  • Active Directory 
  • Virtualized server and storage systems 
  • Network hardware including Ruckus and Cisco Meraki wireless 
  • Experience with next-generation firewalls and endpoint protection systems 
  • Managing switches, routers, firewall, IPS, Prime, wireless, ISE (NAC) 
  • Network/platform-agnostic desktop/BYOD troubleshooting and support experience 
  • DNS and DHCP (Windows based preferred) administration 
  • Windows/Mac operating systems 
  • Experience with cybersecurity and assessment/remediation of identified security risks 
  • Experience with data ingest systems including CSV input/output 
  • Experience with vendor relationship management 
  • Project management/budgeting experience 
  • Experience in a higher education and/or a large/complex IT organization 
  • Experience with writing, organizing and maintaining technical documentation 
  • 4-year degree in a technical field 

Additionally, qualified candidates should possess the following: 

  • Proven customer service and telephone skills; professional appearance and demeanor under pressure
  • Desire to learn and support multiple platforms (Windows, Linux, Apple, etc.) 
  • Ability to visualize, articulate, conceptualize and solve problems 
  • Experience leading small and mid-sized projects 
  • Ability to organize/manage work that is assigned from different sources while balancing shifting priorities
