Position Overview

The Center for Global Education at Butler University is seeking a full-time Study Abroad Advisor and Communications Manager position.  This position will serve as the primary advisor for students preparing to study abroad, will conduct information sessions and outreach events, and will coordinate re-entry events for students returning from an abroad experience.  Additionally, this position will maintain the department website and promotional materials as well as contribute to the social media presence.  This position will meet regularly with students as well as often make presentations, so occasional evening and weekend work should be expected.  Experience studying or working abroad is required, as well as strong oral and written communication skills.  Applicants should be proficient in all office software, any experience with Terra Dotta is preferred.  

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary advisor for Butler students preparing to study abroad
  • Coordinate internal procedures for study abroad students
  • Conduct information sessions and outreach activities for students, parents, faculty and staff
  • Advise individually and in groups on non-exchange programs
  • Prepare all students going abroad on third-party programs
  • Coordinate re-entry events
  • Assist in coordinating events put on by the department
  • Make classroom presentations to promote programs
  • Participate in New Student Registration and other needed presentations on campus (Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Admissions events, Butler 101, etc…)
  • Maintain study abroad resource library and bulletin boards
  • Assist Associate Director for Study Abroad with application and registration procedures for exchange programs
  • Assist in collecting pre-departure paperwork as well as participate in Pre-Departure Orientation each semester
  • Expect occasional evening and weekend work to be required
  • Oversee a Career Mentorship Program of returnee Study Abroad presentations
  • Help with website maintenance and department promotional material, particularly social media, events promotion, and bulletin boards
  • Manage the general CGE email account
  • Assist in updating Terra Dotta

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Experience studying or working abroad
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking
  • Ability to proactively manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Proficiency in all office software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year professional experience
  • Experience working in a study abroad office
  • Experience in student and academic advising
  • Foreign language proficiency
  • Experience with Terra Dotta
