Position Overview
Butler University seeks an experienced professional to serve as the Director, Institutional Equity & Title IX Coordinator. This position will provide leadership for Butler’s efforts to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct and will contribute to the University’s strategic priority of creating an intentionally diverse, inclusive and equitable learning and working environment.
Responsibilities
• Develop, implement, and review University policies related to equal opportunity, nondiscrimination, and affirmative action
• Develop and implement affirmative action plans, track progress, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
• Serve as the University’s expert on Title IX requirements and compliance and provide consultation to senior leadership as needed
• Maintain compliance with Title IX, Title VII, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, while also supervising and gathering data from the University 504 Coordinator
• Handle complaints of discrimination, harassment, or unequal treatment filed by students, faculty, staff, or visitors; including conducting investigations, providing support to individuals involved, and taking appropriate remedial action
• Develop and lead bias response protocol, including assessing the potential impact of incidents on the community; monitoring University climate and emerging patterns
• Develop educational and training initiatives such as teach-ins, solidarity programs, campus speakers and bias awareness programming
• Provide training, workshops, and educational programs to raise awareness about equal opportunity, diversity, inclusion, and preventing discrimination and harassment; collaborate with other departments or organizations to promote a respectful and inclusive campus environment
• Represent the office in University committees and collaborate with various University departments, administrators, and stakeholders to promote diversity and inclusion initiatives
• Provide guidance, consultation, or recommendations on policy development, recruitment practices, and diversity-related initiatives
• Develop and implement affirmative action plans and initiatives to ensure equal employment and educational opportunities for underrepresented groups
• Set goals, monitor progress, and implement strategies to increase diversity and inclusion
• Collaborate with external organizations, government agencies, and community groups to advance equity and diversity initiatives
• Participate in relevant conferences, sharing best practices, and staying informed about emerging issues and trends in the field of institutional equity
• Manage daily office operations of team
Required Qualifications
• 7+ years’ Title IX, AA/EEO and diversity program experience
• Master’s Degree
• Extensive experience administering Title IX guidance and managing Title IX investigations
• Experience analyzing and reporting on affirmative action and equal opportunity data
• Progressively responsible experience in employee relations, equal opportunity/affirmative action or human resources or related field
• Experience conducting or supervising discrimination and harassment investigations
• Experience and/or training in responding to complaints of sexual harassment and sexual violence as well as complaint investigation and resolution
• Experience collaborating with other units and developing campus-wide strategies for the implementation of programs to prevent discrimination and harassment
• Previous higher education experience in a senior-level administrative position
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience in a university Title IX or DEI office
- Juris Doctor
