Position Overview

Senior Project Managers are often given large high-priority projects and are asked to work as a part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution. The Senior PM is responsible to plan, budget, oversee and document all aspects of the specific projects they are working on. The Senior Project Manager role coordinates Butler University resources and third parties/vendors for the execution of projects and it is their responsibility to ensure that all projects are delivered on-time and within scope and budget. Leadership, time management, budgeting, and analytical skills are all required for this position. Project Managers often work closely with Business Relationship Managers, IT management and partner executives to make sure that the project progresses on schedule and delivers the stated business value to the University. Senior Project Managers also help train and mentor other Butler Project Managers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage multiple campus-wide and cross-departmental projects simultaneously and engage team participants by using the appropriate project management framework (traditional, agile, hybrid), processes and tools that promote high-performing teams.
  • Collaborate on the project vision, goals and approach with project team members, business partners, and stakeholders to drive the project from the initial idea to an actual, implemented solution.'
  • Develop and monitor comprehensive project work plans, manage project scope, craft internal and external communications, develop quality control processes, resolve issues and mitigate risks while promoting the health of a project throughout its lifecycle. Assess project health by creating Executive Dashboards, project evaluations and project assessments and provide regular project status updates to Butler leadership.
  • Manage service and product vendor relationships including price and contract negotiation, problem resolution, collaborative planning and documentation.

  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate all regular, recurring project meetings focusing on project goals, resource requirements, task delegation and progress monitoring.
  • Engage in conflict resolution and apply diplomacy techniques that promote productivity and participant engagement, allowing teams to focus on results.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree - MIS, IT, Communications, Business, Leadership or related field, or commensurate business experience
  • Experience working with IT projects
  • Effective verbal and written communication of complex ideas
  • Manage the project team, keeping them motivated, resolving conflict, and facilitating difficult decision making
  • Ability to work independently and concurrently manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Diplomacy and tact when negotiating and collaborating to achieve consensus
  • Ability to work under pressure and balance competing demands of customers across a portfolio of medium to large projects and associated teams.
  • Ability to mentor other project managers.
