Position Overview
Butler University is currently accepting applications for a Research Assistant in the lab of Dr. Lindsay Lewellyn in the Department of Biological Sciences. The Lewellyn lab uses a combination of genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry and immunohistochemistry to study oogenesis in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster.
Responsibilities:
- General lab maintenance, including solution and media preparation
- Fly stock maintenance and husbandry
- Planning and executing experiments using genetics, molecular biology (PCR, restriction digest, gel electrophoresis, RNA extraction, qRT-PCR, CRISPR-based editing), basic biochemistry techniques (immunoprecipitation, Western blotting), immunofluorescence, fluorescence microscopy, and quantitative image analysis
- Assist with the training and management of undergraduate researchers in the lab
- Help develop and maintain a database of fly stocks
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Excel
- At least (2) years of previous research experience
- Preferred experience working with fruit flies, molecular biology, biochemistry or quantitative image analysis
This is a grant-funded position that can start as early as May 2022.
