Overview
Butler University’s Office of Recreation and Wellness was launched in 2005-2006 and proudly opened its first campus recreation facility, the Health and Recreation Complex (HRC), in August of 2006. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Recreation and Wellness –Sport Programs and assists in the daily operations of a dynamic campus recreation and wellness program. This internship provides comprehensive, hands on, learning experiences that further enhances the employee’s development in the field of campus recreation.
Responsibilities
Innovation (10%)
-
develop new methods for training staff
-
assist in creating new sport offerings
-
create memorable moments for participants at events
-
partner with campus departments or third party organizations to enhance the intramural sports experience for participants and staff
Personnel Management (40%)
-
assist with recruiting, hiring, training, motivating and recognizing approximately 20 Sport Program Supervisors & 20 Intramural Officials
-
help ensure student employees have completed proper payroll forms and complete payroll on bi-weekly basis
-
assist with conducting and preparing regular staff meetings
-
develop a comprehensive, in-depth training manual for student employees
-
develop department wide staff incentive/recognition program
-
assist in the preparation and compilation of surveys for student employees
-
assist with semester evaluations of student employees
Program Management (40%)
-
assist with daily activities
-
assist with coordination of repair and maintenance issues for program
-
assist with scheduling facility reservations
-
attend various special events
-
assist with special event preparation and supervision
-
assist with the management of the Intramural participants
-
oversee day-to-day administrative duties
-
equipment and inventory management
-
program assessments
Risk Management (5%)
-
assist with training employees in areas of Risk Management
-
ensure Department Risk Management plan is implemented
-
assist with 1st Aid/CPR Red Shirt Drills
Other (5%)
-
attend Division of Student Affairs and Department of Recreation and Wellness professional staff meetings
-
assist with budgeting/equipment replacement plan development
-
development of a special project to leave your mark with the department
-
other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports management or related field preferred. Innovative leader that has the ability to think outside the box, provide strong team building, decision making and customer service skills. Candidates that possess an interest in a career in campus recreation are especially encouraged.
