General Summary

The Assistant Director of Donor Relations is a member of the University Advancement division and works within the Office of Donor Relations and Stewardship. S/he is responsible for the coordination and project management of gift acknowledgments and provides support for comprehensive stewardship initiatives including but not limited to: donor engagement and recognition events, philanthropic impact reporting, and campaign fundraising efforts. S/he reports to the Senior Associate Director, Donor Relations and Stewardship in University Advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Execute weekly and ad hoc acknowledgements for leadership level gifts of $1,000 to $100,000+ and ensure that all acknowledgment touches are recorded in the database of record
  • Make recommendations for improvements in donor acknowledgment and communications process and product(s)
  • Assist Senior Associate Director in creating and implementing personalized stewardship plans for major gift donors
  • Manage the process to recognize first-time donors and in honor/in memory gifts
  • Manage named space inventory; update as needed when new projects or pledges are recorded
  • Assist Director of Donor Relations in planning and executing core annual events and other donor recognition efforts
  • Support stewardship needs of Butler University giving societies
  • Support ad hoc events (tailgates and other partner events) that serve to recognize and engage donors
  • Manage digital donor recognition

Perform non-routine projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Desire to contribute to and participate in the mission of Butler University
  • 1-2 years of professional experience, preferably in higher education or the non-profit sector
  • An understanding of higher education and/or non-profit fundraising, donor relations, and stewardship preferred
  • Demonstrated foundation in project management, fundraising and event planning
  • Strong interpersonal and written communications skills with demonstrated attention to detail and ability to coordinate people and handle multiple deadline driven projects at once
  • Exceptional customer/donor service
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills required
  • Tact, discretion, and prudence in working with confidential and sensitive data
  • Computer software skills, including Microsoft Office is required, and knowledge of integrated client database systems is preferred
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary
