Position Overview

As an integral part of the Advancement Services Research and Prospect Development team, the Director, Prospect Development oversees and coordinates all the activities and day-to-day operations of the Prospect Development team, including prospect identification, pipeline development, prospect research, and relationship management throughout the prospect development life cycle. Reporting to the Senior Director of Advancement Services, this position collaborates with University leadership and front-line development officers on pipeline management, works independently on research and prospect identification projects, and manages a team of two (2) prospect development professionals.

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee day-to-day operations of Prospect Development. In conjunction with other staff, prioritize and complete requests for research projects that demonstrate commitment to a consistent, accurate and relevant research product and high quality customer service to serve the needs of University frontline staff and leadership, including deans, the Provost, and the President as needed.

Train, mentor, and manage prospect development staff and work in conjunction with the Senior Director of Advancement Services to develop goals, operational standards, and benchmarking. Seek to improve the department by incorporating new knowledge and best practices. Work closely with Senior Director to establish and maintain policies/protocols and best practices around  prospect management.

Lead prospect strategy meetings, including principal gift team and moves management meetings, providing key reports, donor information, and strategic assessments of prospects and proposal timelines. Provide portfolio review services to fundraisers; support and interaction with high-level University leadership expected

Manage the collection, analysis, interpretation and documentation of information on individuals, corporations and foundations, utilizing state of the art resources including web based searches, proprietary databases, contracted screening and data mining resources, electronic databases and other sources as appropriate.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of the field and a minimum of three years prospect research and prospect development experience required
  • Must have demonstrated leadership, management, and organizational skills
  • Minimum of one year supervisory experience or two years project lead/coordination experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Demonstrated analytical skills; evaluates facts and reaches sound conclusions     
  • Possesses strong technical aptitude, including computers and relational databases (Ellucian Advance or Reeher experience a plus)
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the APRA Body of Knowledge strongly preferred
